Medellin, Columbia

In January 2011 NGA visited Medellin, Columbia to look at the provision for autism.
Noel visited a number of organisations – Integrar, Progressar, Arca Mundial, and Habitelmos. These centres showed the range of incredible work the children did from making artefacts, jewellery, brooms and mops for local businesses to recycling, horticulture, rearing animals and theatrical productions in Medellin’s main theatre. They had a range of facilities to engage the young people in activities. However like so many countries the continuing issues with resources and the future of many when they finally leave the centres.

NGA have developed a linked with Habitelmos a local charity who work with a range of adults with learning disabilities. The centre has a range of work opportunities from recycling, raising chickens and garden produce. The clients also make a range of artefacts.
